[Sometime later in the day, when Maya returns to the room, she'll find Rita stripping the bed and throwing the bedding on the floor in a pile. There is some blood here and there. When she sees her roommate, she offers a shrug.]

That weird purple guy made a mess, so we'll probably need to wash this before we use it.

[yep, it was all him, none of it rita's fault.]

[ maya immediately goes into help, because she is a clean freak ]

Geez, what happened? Did he hit his head or something?

Yeah, on my fist.

Woah! You guys were punching it out?

[ more like molly got his ass kicked ]

No, I just gave him a thrashing. Waking up in a strange room, next to some weirdo... I figured he was the worst kind of creep.

Looks like he wasn't at fault, though, so it's probably a good thing that I couldn't kill him.

Wow! You really let him have it.

[ maya seems more impressed than anything. ]

But yeah, I know what you mean. I freaked out when I woke up too... I let Mr. Sieghart have it.

[ aka she fell on him and flailed uselessly ]

Well, seemed like he got over it quickly enough.

That aside... What should we do with this? [the laundry.] I usually just wash stuff the easy way, but that's not an option here.

We all have those days sometimes...

Well, there's got to be a laundry room around here somewhere, right? We just need to soak the blood in cold water before we wash them.

A laundry room...? All right, let's try that.

[rita's never seen one before, but that sounds like a thing that plausibly exists.]

You ever been in a place like this before?

[ mods say one exists somewhere in the dorm so they will find it... eventually ]

Nope! [ don't sound so proud of that, maya. ] I've been kidnapped before, but not like this. How about you?

No, that's not a thing that normally happens to people, usually...

Well, a lot of things that aren't normal happen to me.

No one's dead, though, so this isn't so bad.

I guess I could say the same for myself... hmph.

[she could comment on the dead thing, but oh hey, they found the laundry room.]

Guess you were right. They've got machines for this kind of stuff?

[rita's just dropping what she was carrying on the floor and immediately checking out the washing machines.]

That makes us both pros in the abnormal, huh?

[ maya gathers up the stuff to start soaking it in cold water while rita checks it out. ]

What, you've never used a washing machine before?

[rita pulls her head out of said washing machine to answer. she wanted to get a good look at the inside.]

Nope. If I really need something washed, I usually just blast it with water magic and hang it to dry.

[feytality]

[ her eyes light up at the talk of magic, distracting her from questioning rita being a weirdo ]

You have magic to do laundry?!

Yeah. I use magic for pretty much everything I can. Comes with being a mage.

[feytality]

Is that normal where you're from? No one calls you a witch or anything?

I get called a lot of things, but not for that.

I'm from Aspio, the City of Magic. Almost everyone from there is a scholar of magic, like me.

[ maya seems pretty openly relieved... weirdly ]

That's really cool! And convenient... I'd love to just zap, pow, laundry done!

Well, you still have to deal with the annoying stuff, like stripping the bed, waiting for everything to dry, putting it all back afterward...

It's a pain in the ass, so I usually put it off for as long as I can.

You can't use.. levitation magic or something?

[ that's not how that works ]

Nope. If I used wind magic, I’d just send everything flying. The only thing I can levitate consistently is myself.

[hey, does it seem like Maya’s doing all the work here? that’s probably because Rita is totally not helping.]

[ she gets away with it this time because maya's too enamoured with magic to comment on it. ]

Only if I carry them. The magic makes it possible to support a little extra weight.
