Usually when I die, I don't go anywhere. It's just, y'know, nothing. [upsetting] Someone pulls the cord and so long as I got enough blood, I get back up.
But...no...I wasn't there long, but I think Hell is a place and I'll have to fight my way outta there.
...if any of my coworkers are still alive to pull the cord, that is.
If ya wanna get all technical about it, I'm already dead!
But, I hadn't really given a lotta though to a wish or whatever. Just thought it was a trap to get us all stuck here. Standard Devil stuff, y'know? Never expected to actually get anything...
[she meets his gaze, and her expression softens a little, appreciative. she shakes her head.]
It's not like... work for the sake of work. I like what I do. The very process of it. There's discovery in every step. If you skip all those steps, you miss out on things.
[she's not sure this will make any more sense to him, but she'll try to keep it simple...]
Aspio isn't -- wasn't -- a normal city. It's more like a big research facility. But the main thing we were researching before is gone, so... bringing everything back the way it was would be pointless.
So if we're going to make an entirely new Aspio, I think all of us mages have to decide what that's going to be like... you know, together. I can't just decide that for everybody.

H-hang on. That sounds like... you don't even know if you can come back!?

Tell me you're not just gonna waltz back in there without doing something to make sure you survive, first.

But those other guys that were there with me...they can't do that. So someone's gotta kick some ass and save the day, right?
Plus, Miss Lucretia said I was pretty good at the waltz. [he grins]

You know you're getting a wish at the end of this, right? Instead of leaving anything up to chance, you can guarantee you'll get out of there safely.

Wonder what kinda wish I should wish, in that case...

I... didn't really believe it until recently, either. Haven't actually decided what to do with mine.

Would kinda suck to wish for like, the best meal you've ever had, then realize you coulda wished for somethin' life-changing.

I was thinking I'd use it for my research, or to rebuild my hometown. But I don't really like the idea of taking shortcuts with either of those.

Anyway, what's the problem with takin' shortcuts? Then you've got extra time to do other stuff you wanna do. [denji has zero nobility]
[there's a beat, then he looks at her a bit more seriously]
You worked enough, growin' up, to get this far. Why not make up for some lost time you spent just survivin'?

If it makes you happy, then might as well do it, right?
What about the hometown thing, then? Unless you also enjoy the steps of buildin' houses and stuff.
