Chemistry book. The science here is pretty advanced, compared to what I'm used to. They've discovered a few elements I'd never heard of, as well as some applications I'd never dreamed of.
Chemistry can be a part of it, yeah. There are some solutions that could reveal traces of blood, or make it easier to make out fine details in hand and footprints, or test a drink for poison. Some of this might be a pain to acquire, though.
Forensics can also involve things like taking measurements and making comparisons, or examining evidence for fine details, which I do have some tools to help with.
... Right, I remember everyone talking about how convenient it would be. My world doesn't have anything like that, but it would definitely help us if it happens again.
We're supposed to be able to buy tools with vouchers, right? Have you price checked any?

[ He sighs. ]
What're you reading?

I remember them talking about forensics last Saturday. Is that something you would be able to figure out with chemistry?

Oh, speaking of vouchers. They gave some out this week, right? How many did you get?

[ He will check on his own time later. ]
I came out of Sunday with six total without using one since I arrived.

You've been doing extra credit work, right?

Even though it's more of a pain than I thought.

[with a face that says she's already kind of tired of this, but]
Need a hand? Seems like a lot of the assignments take two people.

[ He is appreciative. Everyone is pretty nice. ]
If you ever need a hand or want to exchange help, I'm open to that, though.

[and she does brighten a little at that.]

[ He tilts his head. ]
You're which dorm?
