It sounds like our one-eyed wonder was also wandering around last night, so maybe he did something to make the animals extra pissy and ready to lash out at the next human-shaped thing to walk by.

Murder cases are usually pretty convoluted so I wouldn't be surprised it was some of kind of grand plan.
