-well, we do have more couches, that one is... less murder-worthy as a prank, in general. The rest, though...
[who the FUCK took the SEATS.]

I genuinely wish I knew. One of the other buildings might have acquired a new one, I don't know where else they could possibly hide it.
[she returns to the spring dorm eventually, lingering outside just for a bit-- but she pauses when she comes across rita, leaning against her staff.]
...Rita. Are you all right?
...Rita. Are you all right?
You don't have to have been close to her to be troubled by what happened.
[after a moment, lucretia takes a seat on the grass nearby, moving a little gingerly as she does.]

Because you didn't want to be too close, or for a different sort of reason?
[there's no judgment there, she's not chiding her, and her own voice remains fairly quiet.]

I think this kind of situation makes it easy for that to change. There's only so much you can do to avoid others in close quarters, like this, and with all your time spent around them...
Distance becomes harder.
Distance becomes harder.
Then you get hurt either way.
[she just makes that correction quietly, with a small shake of her head.]
It's difficult, I know. Even in situations where you know someone won't be around in the long term-- we lean toward connecting with others. The bonds that tie everything and everyone together are a powerful force.
But I think there's more to be gained from letting yourself get to know others, and appreciating that time for what it is, than there is in protecting yourself from ever being hurt.

They always are, but-- I don't think I need to remind you, if you already know.
If you need help taking them, you can ask for it any time, Rita.

...it might have been. He was the only one who seemed that likely, to me, but I don't think anyone is exactly going to admit to it.
[she shakes her head, there.]
I could have been completely off base, as well, but the voucher counts only got more confusing, so I honestly couldn't give you a guess as to whether I might have gotten it right yesterday.

It's-- well, it's a lot of pressure to be under. It makes people less willing to speak up, too, which just puts us under more pressure, until we start pointing fingers.
...I think we did. For what it's worth, I made sure to look her over that week as well, and I was assisting her. If she'd overlooked anything on purpose, I feel relatively sure I would have noticed something was off.
Good. I don't necessarily think it was a bad thing, you know, to mention it.
[they have to have people willing to say something or they'll just. never go anywhere.]
