Um...I gotta think, but...[he starts counting off on his fingers]
Got impaled by that Leech Devil, lots of times fighting that Eternity Devil, got shot a bunch by those weird gun people, that old jerk killed me a bunch during training, Power hit me with a car, got blown up a lot... [uh, this list just seems to keep going]
[he thinks about it a moment, then starts unwrapping another orange from his little pile, focusing on it intently]
Remember I talked about my buddy Pochita? Well, when I was a kid we were both about to die and made a contract—to save each other.
First time I got killed, when I was chopped up and lyin' in that dumpster, Pochita sacrificed himself to fix me. [he looks off into the night for a moment ("show me your dreams")]
Now he's a part of me, and since he was a Chainsaw Devil, I became a "hybrid" which I guess is what they call it when a human can do Devil stuff like revive. So even if I get killed, if I pull this cord [he taps his chest] I can get back up, long as I got enough blood.
Well, they definitely seemed real zombie-like when they were attackin' me. [he makes the universal "zombie" gesture of rolled back eyes and arms extended creepily]
[a sigh. another thing to add to the growing list of things that absolutely should not be real, but maybe are, because the universe doesn't make sense anymore.]

Eatin' oranges. You?

she hesitates...]
Just trying to clear my head, I guess.
no subject
Not really used to that part. [he motions for her to sit, and tears his orange in half, holding it out to her]

I'm used to working with formulas. Magic, machines -- that kind of stuff. Logical stuff. But people aren't like that.
[she huffs and stuffs a piece of that orange in her mouth.] People don't make any damn sense.

That's why my policy is to just say what I wanna say. A lot easier than guessin' what people are thinkin' all the time.

[she eats another piece of orange...]
... Mind if I ask you about something?

What was that all about?

[she almost starts arguing, but stops.]
... What I'm trying to ask is how.

... You weren't talking about one time.

[she's kind of stressed just thinking about it, actually?]
How do you come back?
no subject
So, just promise you won't go talkin' about it to everyone or tell Public Safety about it or whatever.
no subject
... Yeah, I can keep that promise.

[that's SO MUCH TO UNPACK]
Sorry, I'm still wrapping my head around the part where you got chopped up? Excuse me?
no subject
Had the last laugh there, 'cause I chopped 'em all up real good in return, and my debt went away with it.

[...]
When you say "zombie," is that just a name, or...?
no subject
But I didn't have a long chat with 'em, ya know?
no subject
... So how do you pull the cord if you're dead?
no subject
Someone else's gotta do it, which is why I always got a buddy with me.
