Hey. That guy said you're a spirit. Is that true?

[It's fine since he doesn't have manners either, and he's too tired to get agitated.]

Well yeah, it's easiest to go about my day to day like this. This isn't my "true" form or even my "true" body.

Well... I guess that makes sense.

[more sense than a spirit just naturally being a human dude, anyway.]

So you really don't need to eat, even with that body?

[yep, rita's a dirty eavesdropper]

That's right. I can if I want, but it's never been a requirement. I might look human but I don't have to eat or sleep as long as I get sunlight and water.

I'm glad our limitations on magic didn't screw that up, at least. Sure screwed with a lot of other things.

Did you lose some magic too?

Yeah. I'm a mage, so magic is my profession.

[and, well, she might as well show her hand.]

Lately I've been studying spirit magic, specifically.

[branches]

[Hm. Hm???]

What does that mean where you're from, exactly? I feel like words mean different things for different people.

It's pretty much what it sounds like. Magic that comes from spirits. Spirits command the elements, and humans are able to borrow a portion of that power.

[branches]

[Well that sounds... somewhat analagous.]

Borrow... are the spirits agreeing to this?

Yeah, they've been willing to help us so far.

[branches]

[Hmmmmmm]

So it doesn't hurt them? If that's the case... then I guess it's ok. Humans and Spirits don't get along at all where I'm from.

I don't know, they just don't? Humans killed my father so for a long time I thought they were all bad, too.

Well, I'm not too surprised that some humans are total pieces of crap, but...

... Spirits have parents?

He grew my tree from a clipping off my ancestor's and raised me, so that makes him my father.
[Said with a tone like he's waiting for a disagreement and ready to fight about it.]

Sounds like more of a dad than I had.

Well my tree's more my "real" body, and this is sort of an offshoot of it? I can't protect the forest if I'm rooted in place, after all.

... But yeah. I was lucky to have him.

Week 1, Saturday

[hey tsuyukusa. you in the dorm? cool, so is rita. she'll walk in, sink into a chair in the common room, and sigh.]

Ugh. That was such a mess.

[He is, he's retrieved the bottle of sake he's been keeping in his locker, and is similarly slumped in a chair.]

No kidding. Not only is Manwol in danger now, but whoever it actually was is probably laughing at us now.

[she leans back, staring up at the ceiling.]

I don't know... Looking at those suspects, how many of them seem like the maniacal-laughing sorts? The trial was a joke, but I don't think anyone thought it was funny.

I mean... appearances can be deceiving. Besides, for all we know, we were completely off base with who we were suspecting.

[Sips.]

We had one piece of evidence that seemed to narrow things down, and... we just couldn't find anything else. Nothing really solid, anyway. [geese????]

... I never thought it was you, for what it's worth. I know it probably feels like crap to have your name thrown around all day as a suspect.
